In Mooloolaba we found another good exampleUnderwater World:
Underwater World is a multi-award winning tourist attraction located in the heart of the beautiful Sunshine Coast. Home to Queensland’s largest Oceanarium and viewing Tunnel, entertaining seal and otter shows, interactive Touch Pool and live aquarium, Underwater World continues to excite visitors of all ages.
Guests have the unique opportunity to engage with thousands of sea creatures, or participate in exclusive programs including seal swims and shark dives.
It’s educates the public on issues affecting the environment and marine life. For almost 20 years Underwater World has been involved in the rehabilitation and release of marine turtles that arrive at the Mooloolaba aquarium suffering illnesses that are often directly linked to pollution in our waterways.
When dinosaurs roamed the Earth more than 150 million years ago, turtles were plentiful. Of the world’s seven species of marine turtles, six are found within Australian waters! Sadly, all six species are listed as either endangered or vulnerable to becoming extinct.
With the significant increase in the number of stranded turtles, Underwater World turned its attention to prevention as well as cure. They participated in a Clean Up spread out along Kawana Beach where approximately 20 large bags of rubbish were collected.
