On 10-5-01 (2010-05-10) we officially got married in Sargans/Quinten, Switzerland. We climbed over many mountains to get to Sabine’s parents place, where over 600 friends and family members attended the celebration in the church in Wägni and the two-day party on an alpine pasture below Sabine’s favorite mountain “Selun”. The honeymoon continued immediately and we hiked over 3000 km in 5 months to the “end of the world”, Capo Finisterre on the Way of St. James.
On May 10, 2021 we wanted to celebrate our 20th anniversary with a wedding ski tour. However, we had a lot to organize for the soon departure of our “TOPtoTOP Arctic Research Expedition 2021” and hoped to leave at 6 pm. We put the children to bed and were so tired that we dozed off. It wasn’t until 11:15 p.m. that we woke up, hurriedly packed our backpacks and skis, and headed out. – Twenty years later and 6 kids richer, we summit Tafeltinden in the Lyngen Alps at 70 degrees north at 4am today. One more “natural high” on our life’s journey together.- We were then back on the ship when it was time for the kids to go to school and kindergarten.
Our great respect for nature has always been our most important “risk management tool” on now 2 decades of being non-stop on our expedition. Today’s tour reminded us once again to stick to our principle. “Wum” sounds alerted us and we were able to trigger two avalanches remotely! On the descent we crossed a fresh “debris field of ice and snow” coming from a cornice break.- So choose your path where nature invites you! Often we make detours and turn back to come again.
“Natural Highs” like today is the essence of life. To be able to share it especially with your lover, what could be better?
