We wish you all a happy New Year 2024!
We like to thanks all sponsors and supporters in 2023 to make Swiss TOPtoTOP 2.0 a success, specially our main sponsors Victorinox and React. See all Swiss TOPtoTOP supporters here.
We managed 16 TOPs and have 10 TOPs more to go. This to finally climb all Swiss TOPs of the 26 cantons like at Swiss TOPtoTOP 1.0.
Breinzer Rothorn, canton of Luzern
At Swiss TOPtoTOP 1.0 (here the daily reports) we focused on the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve north of the Brienzer Rothorn. Today we are delighted to see that the Entlebuch region has remained true to the basic ideas and that the positive project is continuing.
Yesterday, after our second attempt, we finally reached the highest peak in the canton of Lucerne. First we tried to reach the Brienzer Rothorn and the highest peak in Lucerne from Lungern in the canton of Obwalden in one day. The idea was to reach the summit via the two peaks Höch Gumme (2204 m) and Arnihaaggen (2217 m). We had no information about the connecting ridges in winter and a local mountaineer said that the ridge from Höch Gumme to Arnihaggen was probably not yet used in winter. So we took our full equipment with us, i.e. crampons, ice screws, ropes and ice axes.
The Höch Gumme was a masterstroke for Vital and Mia together with Sabine. After that, the ridge was razor-sharp and very steep, interrupted by rock needles. Noe and Andri were one – and Alegra and Dario the second rope team. The technical difficulties and belaying took a lot of time on the ridge with cornices. We therefore had to descend into the valley at the height of Arnihaggen and then complete the tour a few days later when the weather improved.
Alegra, Salina, Sabine and Dario finally reached the summit and also mastered the ridge between the Arnihaggen and the Brienzer Rothorn (2348 m). Salina and Alegra were the first rope team and Dario and Sabine the second. Alegra was very attentive and saw that the mount on Sabine’s crampons broke on the ascent. This meant that the worst could be avoided and the crampon provisionally repaired.
Titlis and Rotstöckli, canton of Obwalden and Nidwalden
Before the Brienzer Rothorn, we climbed the highest mountain in the cantons of Obwalden (Titlis, 3238m) and Nidwalden (Rotstöckli, 2900m) from Engelberg. The conditions at Rotstöckli were technically difficult, as the snow was powdery and unsuitable for crampons.
Wildspitze, canton of Zug
We crossed the Wildspitze 1580 m, the highest point in the canton of Zug, from Arth Goldau to Sattel towards the “Victorinox Valley”.
Night Attack
Before that, we took part in the Night Attack 2023 ski touring race in Flumserberg. At 6 years old, Vital was the youngest and was featured in the newspaper. He needed 94 minutes for the 719 vertical meters.
Many thanks to Pastor Lorenz Becker for his hospitality and care during the race. As it was getting late, we were able to spend the night in his caravan in Vilters.
