Clean up the Arctic

Back in the Arctic waters, we spent the last few weeks cleaning the beaches of remote islands from plastic debris.

Not everything went perfectly with the eDNA sampling. At first, we waited a long time until we had a permit. Then we had difficulties with the new setup, especially the battery for the pump, and the hose was too short. We then improvised with the dinghy, learned a lot, and are now perfectly ready for the “Sea2TOP” project.

On Noé’s 15th birthday, the children were in the arctic water on the surfboard without neoprene. This is probably the best way to teach them to surf well quickly so they don’t fall into the water too often :-). Even though the water was very cold, there was a birthday swim around the ship also this year!

Back on the coast of Troms and Finnmark, the children had a lot of fun being pulled through the water by fisherman Dag.

At the moment we mainly feed on wild berries and mushrooms, which are offered in abundance, and fish.

In addition to Noé’s birthday, we also celebrated Vital’s 7th birthday and Dario & Sabine’s 23rd wedding anniversary, – this time ashore.

We are now in the Lyngenfjord and will be helping to install the 3S solar system next week for the TOPtoTOP Arctic Base.

We are also currently checking whether we can help a sailor who dislocated his hip in Greenland. Ueli and Dario would then take the ship from Nuuk over 1900 nautical miles to the Norwegian coast. We should know in a few days whether we will be part of this “rescue mission”.

A few days ago, we received an invitation to the world premiere of our film “Home is the Ocean” by Livia Vonaesch, which is expected to be shown at the International Film Festival in Zurich on October 5, 2024. For us, this means a long journey of nearly 4000 km by boat, bike, and train over the next few weeks.

We hope the film will inspire some people to join us on our next project “Sea2TOP”. Hope to see you in Zurich!

Back from the film’s world premiere, we will conclude our “Save the Arctic” campaign with further school visits with our environmental education and outdoor program and do some last-minute preparations for the next project “Sea2Top”.

To finance our “Sea2Top” project, we invite you to a unique week of ski touring. Here is the flyer and we would be happy if you could do some word-of-mouth advertising.
